Nourish Magazine
Nourish Magazine was created for my senior-level magazine design course. I created a magazine that focused on wildlife conservation and protection. I've always loved and admired organizations like WWF and National Geographic, and these are the brands I gathered my inspiration from. My goal was to create a wildlife magazine that contained editorial content like National Geographic but was designed in a way that engages potential readers, whether it be through engaging headlines, dramatic imagery, or provocative advertisements.
Book Design
For my senior-level book design course, we were assigned (1) to take our favorite novel (for me, George Orwell's 1984) and re-design the entire book from scratch, and (2) re-design a book jacket of our choice. This project required diligent planning, and I spend an obscene amount of hours massaging the typographic details of my book in InDesign. In addition to designing the layout of our book, I learned about the challenging craft of bookmaking, which included extreme attention to detail and an equally extreme level of patience.
Brainstorm and Ideation.
Moodboards! It took a lot of research and brainstorming to develop an idea of how I wanted to design my book. I spent endless hours on Pinterest, re-reading the novel, and sketching out ideas as to how I would take my favorite book and make it my own.
Layout and Typesetting.
Once I determined the direction I wanted to go, it was time to start laying out the text. I utilized the Van de Graaf canon to divide a page in pleasing proportions, and then proceeded to thread in the text from Project Gutenberg.
