Key Art for
The Dead Files
As an intern at Discovery’s Travel Channel, I was assigned to design the key art for Season 16 of The Dead Files, from sketching and ideation through final production and output. This project took extensive research and brainstorming, as well as extensive photo retouching and manipulation.
Brainstorm + Ideation.
After watching one too many episodes of The Dead Files, brainstorming became my first task at hand. Not being much of an illustrator, I found this step in the workflow the most difficult. Capturing and sketching out all of my ideas is not a skill I practiced often, and I’m grateful to have supportive mentors guiding me through this process..
Takeaway.
Seemingly, this was the most difficult design project I’ve ever tackled. The final Photoshop file had over 300 layers, and I had never worked with a file that large before. This final key art would then be distributed into hundreds of different platforms and streaming services. Throughout this whole process, I developed a meticulous eye for detail and organization.
Not only was creating this piece of key art technically challenging, but it also pushed my creative boundaries in every direction. This was a large-scale project, with exposure on services like Hulu, Apple TV, Roku, and Google.
